Ginkgo-lined Road

768 Ginkgo Trees can be seen along the road between Oiwake and Takao.

They were planted in memory of the construction of Tama Mausoleum by the Emperor Taisho in 1927. The color of the gingko leaves changes from light yellow in the spring to golden in the autumn, which gives pleasure to the passersby. Since 1979, every autumn when the color of the ginkgo leaves change into gold, the "Icho Festival" has been held by the citizens themselves.
